Edible Books: Harry Potter Edition

Edible Books is exactly as it says on the tin, edible books. No, really. Edible Books will be recipes inspired by food mentioned in books, with taste testing's of course (sorry, not by you, by us.) ;)

Hello again lovelies! It's Thursday, so it's Amber- and I'm back. The past fortnight we had a double edition of Cosplay Antics, so today is the first ever Edible Books post. Kirsty and I have started some layout planning for the next couple of months, for themes. We're playing safe for the first post, with a series that is a big part of ours- and everyone's childhood/life. It is in the title, so you should know what I'm talking about...Harry Potter of course! Recently, I have been re-reading the Harry Potter series, and last weekend I went to the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour in London- Kirsty went back when it first opened up, so we've both been there now. That was the inspiration for this post, and to create and back some yummy noms. And let's be honest, who doesn't like Harry Potter?  You're crazy if you don't.

As I said before that little side-track, I've felt inspired, so while I was at the tour I was able to buy my very own Chocolate Frog, and while I did want to keep it, I ate it, because who wouldn't? Kirsty still has hers, she's an alien.  Since I ate it, I just had to put my own spin on it and see what I could do with it.

So, I present, my Chocolate Frogs.
This is the box the HP Tour keeps the Chocolate Frogs (and card in,) and of course I'm going to keep it to use as a prop for different things, which came in handy today with making the frogs. :)

Firstly, you need chocolate, duh, so I went and bought my favourite chocolate bars (Cadbury Dairy Milk) and chopped them up into little cubes, since they melt quicker and more evenly .
I used a Bain-Marie (which as you can see in the picture, the empty bowl suspended over the saucepan of boiled water) and added the chocolate *(note, it's not boiling, it's pre-boiled and while still steaming the bowl is placed over the rim of the saucepan, this is the only sure-fire way not to burn the chocolate while melting. If after fifteen minutes the chocolate isn't melting, change the water with freshly boiled water. Also, make no sure no water gets into the bowl- though, I'm sure we all know how to melt chocolate.)

Whilst the chocolate was melting, I set up three bowls of different flavoured popping candy and the mould I bought off of Ebay.

O
nce the chocolate had completely melted, I added a pinch of popping candy into each mould and spooned in the chocolate. Once all moulds are filled and therefore chocolate gone -I never at none, promise. Lies. - and the popping candy had sunk into the chocolate, I stuck the mould into the fridge for the chocolate to set and harden. Once set, I popped them out of the mould easily, and individually wrapped them in Clingfilm/Saran wrap.

After repeating the same steps with two other lots of chocolate, with different flavours and popping candy, I placed three in the Chocolate Frog box to send over to Kirsty to try for tasting (Kirsty says they're delicious by the way!)

As you can see, I was able to fit all three into the box, so the frogs are quite small.
Ingredients:
1-3 Bars of medium sized chocolate- any you want.
Food flavouring: Vanilla (or any flavour you want)
Popping Candy (you can also use sprinkles, candy balls, anything really)

P.S Kirsty- I want the box back, hehe.

So, how do you think they look? Ever thought of making some book related food before, if so comment below! Also, what do you think I should do next?
